99 Tekno JAKARTA. The highly anticipated FIFA World Cup 2026 is projected to be a significant catalyst for increased digital service consumption and data traffic among telecommunication operators. With the accelerating trend of consumers watching content via streaming platforms and mobile devices, cellular operators across Indonesia are proactively developing robust service strategies, enhancing network capacities, and preparing specialized access packages.
Leading the charge, Telkomsel is not only fortifying its digital infrastructure but also set to deliver a comprehensive World Cup streaming experience through its over-the-top (OTT) platform, MAXstream TV. This strategic move aligns with the evolving digital landscape and consumer preferences for flexible content access.
Through a pivotal collaboration with TVRI, the official rights holder for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Indonesia, Telkomsel, a subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (TLKM), will offer live streaming of all matches via its MAXstream TV platform. This partnership ensures widespread digital access to the world’s biggest football spectacle.
Lionel Chng, Marketing Director of Telkomsel, emphasized the significance of the FIFA World Cup 2026 as a crucial moment for the company. “We aim to provide customers with a more flexible and easily accessible digital entertainment experience,” Chng stated, highlighting the strategic importance of this initiative.
He further elaborated on Telkomsel’s vision: “We want to make the 2026 World Cup viewing experience easier, more flexible, and accessible to customers anywhere. Current content consumption patterns have shifted, becoming increasingly mobile, moving across multiple screens, and frequently enjoyed with friends and family.” This statement, made on Tuesday (May 26), underscores Telkomsel’s commitment to adapting to modern viewing habits.

Chng added that the FIFA World Cup 2026 streaming service via MAXstream TV is an integral part of Telkomsel’s broader strategy to expand its inclusive digital services for the Indonesian populace, ensuring that more people can engage with premium content.
Thanks to this collaboration, subscribers will have the unprecedented opportunity to watch all 104 matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 directly on their mobile devices through MAXstream TV. Telkomsel is introducing flexible streaming packages, ranging from Rp 25,000 to Rp 85,000, with validity periods extending from 7 days up to 60 days, catering to diverse customer needs.
“We are combining the strength of national broadcasting with the convenience of digital access. This is a highly relevant combination, given that Indonesia is a vast and diverse nation,” Lionel commented, pointing to the unique market dynamics the partnership addresses.
Beyond content delivery, Telkomsel is also proactively enhancing its network and digital infrastructure to guarantee uninterrupted, high-quality service throughout the tournament. Kemash M Fadhli, Vice President of Digital Lifestyle at Telkomsel, confirmed that the company has prepared extensive technological support, from backend systems to application readiness, specifically to manage the anticipated surge in streaming and digital service usage during the World Cup.
“Regarding technological readiness, we have certainly prepared from the backend in terms of IT infrastructure. This includes technical aspects as well as the readiness of the application itself,” Kemash affirmed, ensuring robust support for the expected high demand.
This comprehensive preparedness, he explained, is built upon the company’s extensive experience in managing significant data traffic increases during various large-scale events in the past, positioning them well for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Bernardus Satriyo Dharmanto, President Director of TVRI, shed light on their decision to partner with Telkomsel. He stated that Telkomsel was chosen as the digital broadcasting partner primarily due to its expansive service coverage across numerous regions in Indonesia, ensuring broad accessibility.
“We view Telkomsel as a strategic partner for the World Cup broadcast because people today no longer only watch via television; they also require the flexibility to enjoy matches anywhere,” he remarked, underscoring the shift in audience behavior and the importance of mobile access.
Preceding this, PT Folago Global Nusantara Tbk (IRSX), through its OTT streaming platform FolaPlay, had also forged partnerships with TVRI and PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI) to broaden the distribution of broadcasts across various digital platforms, reflecting a growing ecosystem of digital content delivery.
Specifically, IRSX, via FolaPlay, is poised to become a strategic OTT platform for the display of World Cup 2026 content and related advertising in Indonesia. Concurrently, WIFI, also known as Surge, is supporting this collaboration by providing “internet rakyat” (people’s internet) services, further enhancing digital access.
Subioto Jingga, Director of Folago Global Nusantara, articulated that the 2026 World Cup represents a crucial opportunity to strengthen the national digital entertainment ecosystem. “Through FolaPlay, we aim to open up opportunities for brand owners, agencies, and the public to become an integral part of this grand celebration,” he explained last week, envisioning a collaborative and engaging experience for all stakeholders.
