PT BANK Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, widely known as BRI, has achieved a significant milestone by disbursing Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR), or People’s Business Credit, totaling an impressive Rp 65.95 trillion. This substantial financial support has reached approximately 1.3 million debtors across Indonesia during the first four months of 2026, spanning from January to April.
Akhmad Purwakajaya, BRI‘s Micro Director, underscored the bank’s unwavering commitment to the government’s second Astacita Program, which aims to achieve national self-reliance through food self-sufficiency. He highlighted that the majority of KUR disbursements, specifically 66.47 percent, were strategically channeled into productive sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, and the processing industry, thereby reinforcing national economic foundations.
The agricultural sector emerged as the primary beneficiary, receiving Rp 27.95 trillion, which constitutes a substantial 42.38 percent of the total KUR disbursed by Bank BRI. This vital support has directly impacted 558,000 farmers and 23,000 fishermen within the first four months of 2026. This achievement not only demonstrates the dominant role of agriculture in BRI‘s KUR portfolio but also solidifies the company’s crucial position in bolstering national food security.
As reported by Antara on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Akhmad reiterated that KUR serves as a pivotal financing instrument for BRI, designed to uplift micro and productive business sectors. By expanding access to capital, these efforts transcend mere financial provision; they actively contribute to job creation, stimulate increased business productivity, and invigorate economic circulation across diverse regions of Indonesia.
In its operational execution, Akhmad emphasized that BRI maintains strict adherence to principles of prudence, prioritizing transparency and accountability. He stressed the importance of these measures, particularly given that KUR funds are entirely sourced from public deposits held by the bank. Consequently, diligent management is essential to ensure the sustained quality of these credits and safeguard public trust.
Furthermore, BRI‘s KUR disbursements are meticulously designed to propel businesses forward, enabling them to thrive through enhanced access to financing. This success is tangible, reflected in the debtors’ ability to scale up their operations and significantly boost their business capacity. Evidencing this progress, 307,000 debtors, or 31.96 percent of the targeted 962,000 debtors, have successfully transitioned to a higher business class, marking substantial growth and empowerment.
Beyond enterprise growth, the reach of KUR among households has also shown a consistent upward trajectory. As of April 2026, approximately 19 out of every 100 households have accessed BRI‘s KUR facilities. This marks a notable increase from 18 households in 2025 and 17 households in 2024, underscoring BRI‘s expanding role in fostering greater financial inclusion across the nation.
