The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) is intensifying its collaboration with the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) to accelerate halal certification for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) products across 1,500 tourism villages throughout Indonesia. This strategic partnership has already yielded significant results, having issued tens of thousands of halal certificates by the end of May 2026, thereby substantially elevating the quality of national tourism.
“This collaboration has successfully issued 31,548 halal certificates across 1,116 tourism villages spanning 34 provinces in Indonesia,” stated Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana. She made this announcement during a recent review of a halal certification handover ceremony held in Jatimulyo Tourism Village, Kulon Progo Regency, DIY, on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
During her working visit, which included the Head of BPJPH, Haikal Hasan, Minister Wardhana elaborated that this accelerated program represents a concrete step towards fostering high-quality, inclusive tourism. The initiative aims to provide both a sense of security and comfort for all tourists visiting these destinations.
The genesis of this impactful synergy program can be traced back to July 2025, initially launched as a pilot project involving 20 tourism villages. Witnessing its profound positive impact, the program underwent a significant expansion from late 2025, ultimately aiming to encompass 1,500 tourism villages across various regions. A notable success story is Jatimulyo Tourism Village in Kulon Progo, where 123 businesses, collectively offering 139 MSME products, have officially secured halal certification as of May 30, 2026.
Minister Widiyanti underscored that possessing a halal certificate transcends mere administrative compliance. Instead, it forms a crucial component of a broader strategy to enhance product quality, fortify tourist trust, and expand the economic benefits for local communities. Kemenpar also extended its profound appreciation to BPJPH, local governments, tourism village managers, and the dedicated MSME actors for their unwavering commitment to supporting this vital program.
“Moving forward, this cross-sector synergy will continue to be strengthened to ensure Indonesian tourism villages achieve higher competitiveness, foster sustainability, and deliver tangible welfare benefits for the wider community,” she affirmed, outlining the long-term vision.
Meanwhile, Kulon Progo Regent Agung Setyawan expressed his gratitude for the halal product certification granted to MSMEs within Kulon Progo. He emphasized that these halal certificates significantly bolster tourist confidence, reassuring visitors that all food served, including its preparation methods, adheres strictly to halal standards.
“This initiative will greatly foster trust and ensure the continued influx of tourists to the captivating tourism destinations in Kulon Progo and DIY,” he remarked, highlighting the anticipated positive impact on local tourism.
